The Story Behind the Name Doreen
Doreen was initially a European settlement established in 1844 during the great depression. The area was named ‘Hazel Glen’ at the time by one of the earliest settlers, Partrick Reid and his wife, Agnes, who had a holding over the land.
The Hazel Glen name continued to be used until 1895, when a post office was established and named Doreen by John Gavan Duffy, the Victorian Postmaster-General, and a legislative Assembly member.
